Power Marketing with guest Alfred Poor September 23rd at 9:00am ET

Listen to this Show Now >>

iTunes

"Power Marketing" ...  online videos used as a powerful and cost-effective strategy for small businesses. Most Small business owners don't have the time or money to focus on marketing. In most cases, they buy some ads and put up a sign and hope for the best. In fact, the traditional ways don't work anymore to help companies get found by prospective customers and clients (except for a few niches such as bail bondsmen and insurance brokers). Adding video to your website gives  a competitive advantage, but the big surprise is that it can take very little time and money, and you don't have to own a computer or even touch a camera. A video not only makes it more likely that your prospects will find you, but it also makes them more likely to buy from you as well.

Alfred Poor, PhD, is president of The Center for Small Business, which is dedicated to helping small businesses grow and prosper by delivering practical solutions designed to make the most of a company's scarce resources: time and money. He is a speaker and writer with an international reputation, and is the author of more than a dozen books including "Power Marketing for Small Business: How you can boost sales with low-cost video." This week I will be welcoming my friend Ande Lyons. She has a very interesting brand called Bring Back Desire, and she's been enacting a plan to use social media to build that brand, VERY successfully.  We're going to be speaking about how she did it, so you can use her great tactics to put your brand on the map.

Ande Lyons is the founder and CEO of Bring Back Desire - a playful, tasteful website where women from around the world are rediscovering sensual pleasure and intimacy.

Her passion for bringing increased intimacy to others stems from her own 26-year relationship with her darling husband. Through conceiving past the age of 35, too touched out by toddlers, several business start ups, health challenges, financial turmoil, 5 moves in 9 years, teens and menopause - Ande was committed to keeping the spark alive in her marriage. She spent years culling through stories, products, toys and relationship reference materials to find the best of the best in each of these categories. In the tradition of Betty White wink-and-a-nod humor and Erma Bombeck kitchen table conversation style, Ande shares her resources through Bring Back Desire.

Ande's business career spans over twenty-five years in executive level management, private banking, and entrepreneurial ventures. She is an experienced and passionate entrepreneur with several successful companies to her credit. Encore - Using Brand Narrative in Social Media with Fred McClimans 6-10-13 at 9:00am ET

Listen to this Show Now >>

iTunes

In an age of pervasive communications and social media, content has become the new king. While the discussion has shifted a bit from the different types of paid, earned, and owned content to the value of content marketing, it's important to understand how content is generated, spread, and consumed, as well as the impact it can have on your brand.

It's equally important to understand the impact of content on your brand's narrative and how it is perceived in the market. Everything a business says, posts, publishes, or does (all content) become part of their narrative. But a brand's narrative is also influenced by the narratives of their competitors, their customers, and other markets that may have an indirect influence on how a brand, and its narrative, is perceived. My guest this week shares with us the bottom line of how a brand's narrative affects a business brand and how to successfully integrate it into social media.

Fred McClimans is a business strategist and advisor, with a diverse background and experience that ranges from startups to executive board rooms and from small businesses to global enterprises.

Throughout his career, Fred has helped businesses become more competitive, adapt to changes in technology and market trends, and better serve the needs of their customers.

He accomplishes this by working directly with organizations to develop innovative opportunity-oriented strategies that leverage strong corporate branding, emerging technologies, and changes in consumer behavior to their advantage.

In addition to his work at firms such as Gartner, Ernst & Young and Newbridge Networks, Fred is also a start-up veteran, including the global competitive intelligence firm Current Analysis, which he launched to provide rapid, actionable insights and analysis about market events for business, consumer and financial organizations.

Over the course of his career, Fred has worked within a number of different industries, and helped guide a wide range of organizations, from local businesses to global enterprises.  He often shares his insights as a frequent speaker and guest on radio and online media programs. He has also authored a book on communications infrastructure and has been widely published as an editorial analyst, covering current events and long-term global trends through outlets such as IDG and CNN Online.

He is also an executive committee member of IntelliFest, an international conference on Applied AI technologies.

Gary Vaynerchuk

How often do you get to interview a bad boy? Gary Vaynerchuk makes time for ACT LOCAL Marketing this morning to talk about the Internet, marketing, corporate storytelling, and Google Glass just to name a few topics.

The often irreverant and exceedingly successful New York Times and Wall Street Journal best selling author and NY Jets owner wannabe is full of honest, no holds barred advice for local businesses who want to remain in business after 2014.

Gary Vaynerchuk, a 37 year old New York Times and Wall Street Journal Best-Selling author who is also a self-trained wine and social media expert. From a young age, it was clear that Gary was a businessman. At 8-years-old he was operating seven lemonade stands in his neighborhood and by 10 he had moved onto selling baseball cards at local malls. In high school while working at his family owned liquor store, Gary started reading The Wine Spectator and wine books, and realized collecting wine offered an allure similar to his previous hobby of collecting baseball cards. With a wealth of knowledge and an entrepreneurial spirit, Gary spent every weekend of his college years at his parents' wine store. Recognizing the importance of e-commerce in 1997, Gary launched Winelibrary.com and helped grow his family business significantly from $3 million to $45 million by 2005.

In 2006, with a flipcam and NY Jets bucket Gary began Wine Library TV which revolutionized the wine world. His wine reviews soon attracted over 100,000 viewers each day and his die-hard fans nicknamed themselves "Vayniacs." Gary's cult-like following was the result of his unconventional, often irreverent commentary on wine. Using comical expressions like "Sniffy Sniff" and "The Oakmonster," he encourages straightforward wine tasting and debunks wine myths. A business visionary Gary also started Cinderella Wine, a flash sale website which features one wine per day beginning at 9PM EST for 24 hours sold at a severely discounted price.

Gary does not claim to be a ‘techie', but in 2005, he began video blogging and is known as a true social media trailblazer! He has close to 1 million followers on Twitter and was included in BusinessWeek's list of the top 20 people every entrepreneur should follow. Gary's first business book Crush It! Why Now Is the Time to Cash in on Your Passion (October 2009) hit the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Associated Press Best-Sellers lists in its first weeks. It maps out Gary's road rules for how to "Crush It" in today's business market by following your passion and building your own personal brand. His second New York Times bestseller The Thank You Economy (March 2011), details the effect of social media on business and has become required reading for business leaders. In the spring of 2009, Gary and his brother AJ launched VaynerMedia, a new breed of agency that helps Fortune 500 companies like Campbell Soup Company, PepsiCo, Green Mountain Coffee, the NY Jets, and the Brooklyn Nets find their social media voices and build their digital brands.

Gary has appeared on countless programs from Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and Ellen to MSNBC, CNBC, CNN and NPR. He was also notably featured in Decanter Magazine's 2009 Power List, which is a list of the 50 most influential people in wine and named Innovator of the Year at Wine Enthusiast's 2009 Wine Star Awards.

My guest this week debunks the myths of writing a book and shares how to get it out of our head and on to paper.

Donna Kozik is known as the book writing and publishing expert and for the past several months has led a number of people in writing a book in a weekend.  In fact, she has set a personal goal of helping 1,000 people become published authors in the next year.

Alan and I will be discussing content, context and curation; and the concept of corporate story worlds. You don't want to miss this episode of ACT LOCAL Marketing.

Alan Berkson is founder and principal at the Intelligist Group, a business strategy advisory service. In a fast-changing economic and technological landscape, he specializes in fostering change within organizations to ensure growth and profitability. Beginning with an in-depth discovery process he applies a system for helping businesses move past blockages, leverage unidentified or underutilized assets, and identify opportunities for growth.

Mr. Berkson is a seasoned leader and innovator with diverse Director, C-Level, and Strategic Consultant experience. He has provided top-tier service to companies from one-person firms to enterprise-level corporations—across Wall Street, the United Nations and Main Street—by wielding his own brand of non-traditional business strategy. Twenty-five years of entrepreneurial experience in a broad range of vertical markets has given him a unique ability to help businesses find their “undiscovered assets.” His greatest successes have been in helping businesses maximize value from their core strengths and by aiding/nudging/cajoling the creative process.

Alan is also recently Director of Strategy and Business Development for Starlight Runner Entertainment. It's here that he is looking to apply world-class entertainment content development techniques to help organizations tell better stories.

You can find Alan's blog or follow him on Twitter: @berkson0 to learn more about what he's up to.
